Help Page for PACSMail for Mac

NOTE 23 October 2017 - there is now a version of PACSMail for Mac (1.1.10.5) which WILL run under macOS 10.13 High Sierra. Please contact us if you require access to this version.

Installing the Application

How can I install the Mac application?

The Mac application is available here (you need to log onto the website in order to have access).

PACSMail you may have to change a security setting to allow the installer to run as by defualt your OS X may be set to only allow apps to install from the app store or identified developers (which we are not). Check Settings - Security & Privacy - General and see what it says under "Allow app downloaded from:". You need to set it to "Anywhere" to install PACSMail. You can then set it back to whatever you want after you've installed PACSMail.

Downloading Files

How can I download my files?

When you log onto PACSMail you will be shown your Mailbox. You can select files and click Download. You will see a progress bar scrolling across the screen for each file that is downloaded. The files will be copied to your Working area where you can view them.

Why are files still in my mailbox after download?

They will stay in your mailbox by default so you can download them again later on to your PC should you wish to. You can manually delete the mailbox files if you wish or edit your Settings to automatically delete after download.

How can I download a file again?

If you need to download a file again because of a problem viewing the file then please do the following.

  • Delete the existing file in Working.
  • Go to Preferences and click RebuilDB to rebuild the index.
  • Go back to Mailbox and select and download the file again.

Viewing Files

How can I view my Dicom files?

You need a copy of Osirix or Horos installed on your Mac in order to view the images. When PACSMail Dicom files are downloaded they will automatically be routed to your Osirix or Horos Local Default Database as shown in your preference settings.

PACSMail Preferences should be as follows for Osirix users:

  • Copy to Directory: /Users/username/Documents/Osirix Data/INCOMING.noindex
  • Application: Osirix

PACSMail Preferences should be as follows for Horos users:

  • Copy to Directory: /Users/username/Documents/Horos Data/INCOMING.noindex
  • Application: Horos

If I have deleted images from my viewer but I still have the PACSMail file how do I get the images into Osirix or Horos again?

If you double click the PACSMail Dicom file in Working this will resend the image file to your viewer and the images will reappear in your local database.

How can I view non-Dicom files?

Double click on a file in Working and an appropriate viewer on your Mac will open.

What should I do if I have a problem viewing a file?

If you're unable to view a file then you should download it again - see Downloading Files.
